Sorrelcourt Riding Club Rules regulations & Code of Conduct
Sorrelcourt Riding Club Code of Conduct The club is affiliated to the national British
Riding Clubs organization which is part of the British Horse Society. Club members are bound by the BRC Code of Conduct, the full details of which are published annually in the BRC Rulebook. It is available to download free of charge at www.bhs.org.uk/enjoyriding/british-riding-clubs


All members are expected to behave with consideration for others at all times.
Unpleasant, abusive or offensive behaviour to any member, guest or official will not be tolerated. The welfare of the horse/pony is paramount and all members are expected to adhere to the British Riding Clubs Code of Conduct for welfare at all times. Members of Club Teams must recognise their responsibilities as team members and their conduct at events reflects positively on the club. Members are asked to abide by the spirit of the club objectives. To help and encourage others, improve standards of riding and horsemanship in a safe and positive environment. 1/ It is the responsibility of all horse/pony owners to ensure that their animals are fully vaccinated against equine flu. Animals must not be brought to the club, training or competition venues unless vaccinations are up to date.

2/ Current standard hard hats must be worn at all times when mounted. Body protectors must be worn when required. Updated in 2017 the BRC Hat & Body Protector regulations are available on BRC website.

3/ Members will be correctly and safely turned out at all mounted club events. Hair of shoulder length or longer should be tied back or in a hairnet.

4/ We strongly recommend members arrange their own property and personal accident insurance. As best practice we suggest non-members at our events have third party insurance, however members must be aware we cannot guarantee they have this cover.

5/ To create a safe environment we ask members to familiarize themselves with our Health & Safety Policy. (Copy available on our website or can be posted upon request) Any member, competitor or spectator not willing to accept direction from Club Committee regarding health and safety or animal welfare issues may be excluded from the club.

6/ Members must follow the reasonable instructions of committee members, stewards and officials at all times.

7/ Members must walk the course. If you are not happy with the course, height, distance, ground conditions or any other factor, do not compete.

8/ Members must follow sensible and established protocols in warm up areas and lessons. When in an enclosed area pass left to left when working on opposite reins. Riders in canter have the outside track. Riders in walk or trot must remain clear of those working at a faster pace. Whilst at halt find your own clear space and remain alert to activity around them. No rider should cut across another at any time. Practice fences must be jumped with the red flag on the right hand side. These rules are designed to ensure safety of all and failure to comply may mean expulsion from the arena / premises.

9/ Members must report any accident, incident or injuries sustained during any club activity or whilst hiring the club venue. This must be done without delay to a committee member and an accident form completed.

10/ Membership must be fully paid before a member can apply or trial for a place on the Club teams.

11/ Sorrelcourt Riding Club are fully committed to safeguarding in Equestrian Sport. The protection of children, young people and adults at risk while participating in sport. We aim to create a fun, safe environment and be protected from harm. We have a code of practice for junior members and adopt the British Equestrian Federation Child Protection Policy. (A copy is available on our website.)

12/ The club venue and its facilities can be hired by members. At least two people must be present, non-members cannot ride. Any accident or injury must be reported without delay a club accident form filled in and given to a committee member. Any damage to jumps or property must be reported.
